“I had a great job complete with a fancy VP title, was doing work I enjoyed, and felt fairly sure that everything in my life was unfolding beautifully. But slowly, what had started out as occasional, nagging aches began to grow into a constant and debilitating pain. It turned out that I had an invisible illness which was never going to go away. It would only ebb and flow.
The breaks between the pain that I felt began to close in, and the work that I loved became untenable. Not because I couldn’t do it, but because my body wouldn’t cooperate. I had to quit. I had to slow down. I had to reevaluate what I was going to do with my life.
So I started my own business. One that would allow me the space and flexibility to work around the pain.
The condition I have doesn’t really matter. So many people deal with similar things. Besides which, seven years later, I feel blessed by the pain. Without it, I may never have stopped to realize that there was more to life than being accomplished and impressive.
Pain brought me my business, my husband, my beautiful daughter, and a life that I never knew I wanted but am so happy to have.”
