“I was 21 years old and had been a bride for two whole weeks when the doctors diagnosed me and gave up on me — me and all the girls who died and all the girls who didn’t. But you can’t listen to what the doctors say. Disabilities are just footnotes, and I am the adventure story.
“The question is: What happens when your life turns upside down from a diagnosis? How do you keep your identity and personality intact when you’re being subsumed into a new world of hospitals and physical therapists? Can you still eat what you love? Get married? Work? Dance?
“Here’s what I discovered: You can shift your thinking, flip your fears and be who you want to be. You don’t have to be the misfit anymore. You can turn trailblazer. Every day that you make choices to support your beautiful body, every time you choose what works for you over what works for everybody else, every time you step off the path prescribed for you and into liberation, you fly the flag for trailblazers globally.
“I chose to reclaim my power from all those who only saw a wheelchair and tried to dismiss me — and in that process, I reclaimed my world. I launched my business, camped under the stars, and swam in the sea. And I began wearing earrings every day.
“Today, I’m an award-winning international wellness expert, coach, author, and motivational speaker. I’m the founder of Healing Boxes CIC and The Phoenix Fire Academy, Future Young Leader of Wales Award recipient, Entrepreneur Wales Awards and Great British Entrepreneur Awards finalist. I’ve been featured in The Hay Festival, Positive News, Gala Darling, TEDx, Huffington Post and The Times of London, and am recognized as a trailblazer by thousands of people who have seen me speak and participated in my programs.
“For those who are hurting, living with illness, grief, pain, or trauma, here’s what I want you to know: You are here on this beautiful planet for a tiny, glittering second. Live in full color — every challenging, heart-jumping, real-life second of it — and love hard, now. You have too much talent and too little time to waste.”
